What's the deal with Ear Beads?

Girl getting ear beads placed in her ear

You've probably heard the phrase "the eyes are the windows to the soul," but how would you feel if I told you that the ears were the window to the body? Interesting, right!

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) the ear is connected to all areas of the body. The best way to think about it is to use the inverted embryo example. When looking at your ear you start with the lobe (head of the embryo) and then climbing up the ear you reach your vital organs, spine, and ending with the toes. Wow!

So how did this come about?

The ear has actually been used to diagnose illness in both Eastern and Western medicine since the 1900s. Using the ear to test the tenderness of points can help to narrow down where the pain is coming from, and using that same logic those points on the ear can help to alleviate pain as well.

What do I do with my ear beads?

When your acupuncturist puts on your Ear Beads they generally give you a quick explanation of what to do, including pushing down on the bead when you begin to experience pain, anxiety, or whatever else they have applied the ear bead for. The ear beads can last anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days, and you can remove them at any time!

So what are you waiting for? Ear Beads are a wonderful pain-free addition that helps extend your acupuncture appointment, so next time you're in make sure to leave with some bling!
